What Does Financial Freedom Mean to You?

questioning retirement

We all grew up with an idea of what we wanted to be when we grew up. Those dreams began around the age of 6 or 7: teacher, fireman, writer, scientist, race car driver, astronaut…but when do we start to ask ourselves about our retirement? Equally unknown—or avoided—is what will our financial future look like?

I began thinking about money in my teens. I got the traditional small allowance for doing chores, but earning and saving didn’t come into my mind until my father hired me at age 16 (at $25/month) to edit his writing. As each decade progressed, earning, saving, and eventually investing became more important, eventually generating ongoing discussions with a financial advisor.

Now, 4 decades later, financial independence and retirement planning are an almost-daily thought!

What about you?

  • What is your relationship with money?
  • Where are you on the road to financial security?
  • Do you have a plan that has you moving forward with confidence?
  • How does family, caregiving, second acts, and late-starts influence your financial security?
  • Are you ready for retirement?
  • Does your financial future weigh heavily on you?

While each of our paths are different, many fear whether their money will last the rest of their life. Similarly, we want to live a comfortable second half of our life.

The big question on everyone’s mind is: how will I get there? For baby boomers and gen x, the question is: do I have enough time to save?

I recently revealed how my relationship with money and my net worth grew in the last decade at Here’s What a Decade of Net Worth Growth Looks Like. When I got started pre-2010, there were few blogs and podcasts available. In ten years’ time, the interest in financial freedom has grown tremendously to where there are now dozens, if not hundreds, of blogs, podcasts, and points of view to cover financial interests, challenges, and goals. Now, as we crest the beginning of a new decade, an upcoming event—the first of its kind—will help you on your quest for financial independence. It’s the Financial Freedom Summit.

This 2-day conference gathers “speakers who are living life on their own terms” and are no longer trading time for money. They will teach you how to achieve financial freedom through their own experiences, failures, successes, and strategies. During the summit, you’ll talk with experts who write or create podcasts on the topic of financial freedom. Learn about financial independence-retire early (the FI/RE community). Connect with speakers and attendees who are eliminating debt, saving money, and living comfortable, frugal lives to build their net worth. Topics discussed will cover side hustles, optimizing your full-time job, eliminating debt, frugal and minimalist living, budgeting, tax efficiency and something new to me—geoarbitrage. You’ll come away with tips, guidance, and friendships to help you beat your money fears and inspire you toward your own financial independence.

Packed into this summit will be 4 tracks to fit your needs and curiosity:

  • Earning
  • Saving
  • Investing
  • Mindset

Plus, I’ll be there and invite you to join me! Below are two affiliate links to meet your needs:

We’ll discuss second acts, financial freedom, caregiving, and other issues important to the baby boomer and gen X generation. We’re creating our own community!

It’s never too late to build your net worth nor is it too late to ask yourself, what will my financial future look like?

Kristen – this sounds fantastic and right up my street!

Unfortunately, we have already planned vacation time for May.

Will there be any virtual passes available?
