Assignment: Retirement—What Will YOUR Retirement Look Like?

what will your retirement look like?

Earlier this week, with my laptop in the loving care of an IT specialist, I had the rare opportunity to clean my office. Among the sort-of fun task, I reread all the motivational sticky notes on my walls. Of interest was this one:

The year: 2009. Many life transitions occurred that year:

  • Divorce
  • A cross-country move
  • Becoming a long-distance caregiver
  • Poor economy
  • Uncertain financial outlook

Feeling down and doubtful, I set those goals as my vision for the next 50 years. I soon forgot the message to myself, yet still pursued them with high determination.

What a different a decade makes!

Because of these profound self-discoveries, my happiness, opportunities, and future outlook have shifted. Here are my goals for the next ten years (when I reach age 65):

Your Retirement Assignment

Have you written a note to yourself outlining what you want your future to look like? Whether it is retirement-based or not—DO IT NOW!

  • What do you want from life?
  • What’s important to you?
  • What can you let go of/cut back on?

You don’t need to share your thoughts—this exercise is for you. However, if you are comfortable, please share your self-discoveries. Is what you wanted 10 years ago the same as what you want today? Why or why not? Have you accomplished what you have wanted in the last 10 years?

Retirement Assignment—BONUS:

If I get enough interest, I’ll set up a webinar in which we share our goals and discoveries. We’ll call it Retirement Accountability.

Please share with others and comment below.

p.s. Speaking of decades, are you aware we are 6 weeks (November 2019) away from entering a new decade?
